Aleksandra Simonova

Aleksandra Simonova is a PhD Student at UC Berkeley’s department of anthropology. Her research lies in the intersection of territory, political power, and technology. She has published research on the Soviet cultural imagination of outer space exploration at Strelka Press in Moscow, and has done research on technology and creativity in hackerspaces and technoparks in Moscow while at the European University at St. Petersburg. She is among the authors of the edited volume From Russia with Code, edited by Mario Biagioli and Vincent Lepinay. Her current research is on post-annexation Crimea, and continues her interests in spaces of exception, overlapping sovereignties, and material and symbolic borders.
